![]() The County Environmental Health staff advises swimmers that levels of bacteria can rise significantly in ocean and bay waters adjacent to storm drains creeks and rivers. Reminders: There is a 3-day rain advisory after each rain storm use caution as bacteria levels can increase during this period. There are popular surf spots north of the pier and at small jetties between 18th and 56th streets. There is free parallel parking on the streets between homes but difficult to find on the weekends and busy summer days. Parking is metered along the streets and in parking lots and free in the evenings. ![]() Outdoor showers and wheelchair accessible restrooms are located at the base of the pier. Wheelchairs are available at the lifeguard station. Other activities include beach volleyball and a paved bike/walking path that separates the beach houses from the sand. The base of the pier is an area popular for shopping dining and bar hopping. The pier located between 19th and 23rd streets is a center for morning surfing and fishing fish sinks are located on the pier as well as a restaurant at the very end. The area around the Newport Pier offers visitors a total beach going experience. Newport Beach is 2.7 mile long sandy beach stretching from the Santa Ana River to the Balboa Peninsula.
